The deadline has come and passed for Pennsylvania to produce a budget.
Governor Josh Shapiro proposed a $51 billion budget, but that has faced pushback from Republicans in the legislature.
Shapiro is proposing more spending for K-12 education, public transit, and healthcare. He’s proposing taxes on skill games and legalizing recreational marijuana to help pay for the plan.
Republicans meanwhile say the spending will eventually knock out the reserve fund and lead to higher taxes.
At the moment, no programs will be significantly impacted. However, if the talks drag on, there could be a crunch on schools and county services if the budget isn’t passed.
This is the fourth straight year the legislature will have gone beyond the June 30th deadline.
