John Andretti has passed away at the age of 56 following a three-year battle with cancer. Andretti grew up in a racing family in Pennsylvania. His father was Aldo and he was the nephew of Mario Andretti. But he made a name for himself as an IndyCar driver and a Nascar driver. John Andretti became the first driver to attempt the Memorial Day double, by driving the Indy 500 and the Coca-Cola 600 Nascar race in the same day. He would make 476 career starts, with one IndyCar victory and two Cup series wins. His son Jarrett competed in the Indy Light series last May, becoming the seventh member of the Andretti family to race at Indy.
John Andretti was born in Bethlehem, Pa in 1963.
