As unemployment numbers continue to rise in Pennsylvania, the state is ramping up its operations trying to process all the claims.
Jerry Oleksiak is the state’s Secretary of Labor and Industry and he says they’ve brought back retirees and added technology to try and keep up with new claims.
“We know that even with those moves, there are still frustrated citizens trying to get through. We understand that and feel that frustration too,” Oleksiak said. “We are citizens of the Commonwealth and we care very much about these people. We are in the business of helping them.”
“We want to get the benefits to them as quick as we can. This is an obligation we take very serious,” Oleksiak said.
Since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic, Pennsylvania has had more than 1.3 million people file for unemployment.
