The Pittsburgh Penguins defeated the Seattle Kraken 6-1 last night on the west coast. The Pens chased Seattle goaltender Philip Grubauer with three goals in the first five minutes of the game. Penguins goaltender Casey DeSmith earned his first win in net this season stopping 28 of 29 shots. Jeff Carter scored twice and Jake Guentzel extended his scoring streak to 13 games with his 15th goal of the season. The Pens visit Washington Friday.
The Philadelphia Flyers have fired head coach Alain Vigneault after the team’s eight consecutive losses. Assistant coach Michel Therrien was also let go and Mike Yeo will take over as interim coach.
