The Pittsburgh Penguins fell to the Calgary Flames 2-1 in a shootout last night. It was their second consecutive loss. The shootout took seven rounds to decide the game. Tristan Jarry stopped 31 shots in regulation. Jake Guentzel scored his ninth goal of the season on a third period power play. The Pens visit Edmonton tomorrow night.
Center Evgeni Malkin made the trip with the Penguins and joined their morning skate Monday as he works his way back from knee surgery.
The current Penguins ownership and the Fenway Sports Group officially announced their partnership Monday. The Boston-based sports conglomerate signed a purchase agreement to take control of the franchise, but both Mario Lemieux and Ron Burkle will remain part of the ownership group. It is also expected the current management team will remain in place. The transaction still needs approval by the National Hockey League. Closing is expected by the end of the year.
