The Pittsburgh Penguins lost to the Florida Panthers 3-2 in overtime last night. It was the first of three road games. Jared McCann scored his first goal as a Penguin, as did Marcus Pettersson. Casey DeSmith stopped 39 of 42 shots in the net for the Penguins, with Matt Murray missing the game due to injury. The Pens also played without center Evgeni Malkin.
Since winning eight games in a row, the Pens are just 5-7-1, and are slipping in the Metropolitan Division point standings. The Pens are now five points behind the first-place New York Islanders, with Columbus moving to within two points of the Penguins. The Carolina Hurricanes are currently outside of a playoff spot, and are three points behind the Pens.
Captain Sidney Crosby played in his 915th career game, tying Mario Lemeiux’s franchise mark.
The Penguins visit the Tampa Bay Lightning tomorrow night. Face-off is 7pm. WISR pre-game is 6:30pm.
The Pens complete their road trip in Philadelphia Monday. The Flyers had an eight-game winning streak snapped last night with a 3-2 overtime loss to the Los Angeles Kings.
