The Pittsburgh Penguins have hired Ron Hextall as their new general manager. Hextall replaces Jim Rutherford, who suddenly resigned two weeks ago. Hextall is a Philadelphia Flyers Hall of Fame goaltender who also served as their general manager following his retirement as a player. The Penguins have also hired Brian Burke for a newly created position as president of hockey operations.
The Pens have also created a new director of hockey operations position – and filled that with long-time NHL executive Brian Burke.
The Pens visit the New York Islanders tomorrow night, before beginning a four-game home-stand. They host the Washington Capitals for two games beginning Sunday afternoon.
