The Pittsburgh Penguins signed defenseman Marcus Pettersson to a five-year contract extension Tuesday. The 23-year old Pettersson will make an average of just over $4 million per season when the deal begins in 2020-2021. He was acquired in a trade for winger Daniel Sprong from Anaheim in December 2018. Since then, he has the second-most points for the Penguins defenseman and the third-highest plus-minus figure.
The Penguins return from the NHL All-Star break Friday at home against Philadelphia.
