The Detroit Red Wings defeated the Pittsburgh Penguins 6-3 last night. The Red Wings built a 4-1 lead after scoring three times in the second period. The Pens mounted a comeback with back-to-back goals in the third period, but were not able to tie the score.
Detroit scored two empty-net goals to close the game. Evgeni Malkin, Bryan Rust and Erik Karlsson scored for the Penguins. It was Karlsson’s first in a Pittsburgh uniform. He had three points in the game. The Pens visit the St. Louis Blues Saturday night.
Evgeni Malkin now has 474 goals in his career, third-most by a Russian-born player. He trails only Sergei Federov and Alexander Ovechkin.
