The Pittsburgh Penguins defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning 5-4 in overtime last night in Florida. Jason Zucker scored the game-winner for the Pens, who have now won four games in a row. Defenseman Jeff Petry led the Penguins with two goals in the game.
The Pens now have the top Wild Card playoff spot by one point over the New York Islanders in the Eastern Conference, and are five points ahead of four other teams.
The Penguins have 21 games remaining in the regular season visit the Florida Panthers Saturday for a 6pm face-off. Pre-game on WISR is 5:45pm.
Numerous outlets are reporting that the Penguins also dealt for a former player overnight. Details of the trade are unclear, but Nick Bonino will be coming back to Pittsburgh. Ahead of the trade deadline, General Manager Ron Hextall made a move for the former Penguin who was a part of the Stanley Cup runs in 2016 and 2017. He’s expected to take a center position in the bottom six lines.
The Boston Bruins defeated the Buffalo Sabres 7-1 last night – and became the fastest team in NHL history to reach the 100-point mark in a season. The Bruins did it in their 61st game, besting the Montreal Canadiens mark of 62 games in 1977.
