The Pittsburgh Penguins defeated the Boston Bruins 4-2 last night in their first of three road games. The Pens came back from a 2-0 deficit in the game, sparked by Danton Heinen, who scored two goals in less than 30 seconds in the second period against his former team. The Pens scored three unanswered goals in that period, with Sidney Crosby scoring his 499th career goal. That goal was the game-winner. Bryan Rust scored an empty-net goal late in the game. Tristan Jarry earned the win in net by stopping 43 of 45 shots.
Boston’s Brad Marchand will likely be facing a suspension from the NHL after he punched Jarry near the end of the game, and also swung his stick at the goalie’s mask. He was given a match penalty.
The Pens snapped a four-game losing streak while playing without Evgeni Malkin. They visit Ottawa Thursday. Last night’s victory moved the Pens to within one point in the Metro Division. The Pens and New York Rangers have 64 points in their 47 games played. Carolina leads with 65 points.
