The Pittsburgh Penguins defeated the Vancouver Canucks 3-2 last night to complete a four-game road trip sweep. 18-year old rookie Ben Kindel scored twice to lead the Pens. It is the second multi-goal game of the season. Kindel had gone 20 games without a goal. Stuart Skinner stopped 19 shots and won for the seventh time in his last eight starts. Evgeni Malkin scored the other Penguins goal.
One of Kindel’s goals was scored on a slap shot that broke the camera inside the net!
The Pens host the Chicago Blackhawks Thursday. They remain in second place in the Metropolitan Division, four points in front of the third place New York Islanders. The Pens are six points behind first-place Carolina, but have a “game-in-hand”.
Malkin now has 40 points in 36 games this season. He is second to only Alex Ovechkin for most seasons by a Russian-born player to reach 40 points in a season, with 17. Malkin looked like he may have suffered a shoulder injury at the end of Sunday’s game. He had returned from an “upper-body” injury January 8th.
