The Pittsburgh Penguins defeated the Washington Capitals 6-3 Sunday afternoon at PPG Paints Arena. Bryan Rust scored twice for the Pens. It was the first time in 13 games this season that the Pens built a two-goal lead after falling behind 1-0. The Pens scored twice in 30 seconds in the first period. The Pens snapped an 0-for-21 power play scoreless streak when Kris Letang set up Rust for one of his goals. Sidney Crosby and Zach Aston-Reese would score empty-net goals at the end of the game.
The Penguins will host the Capitals again Tuesday for a 7pm face-off. WISR pre-game begins at 6:30pm.
The Pens have now earned wins in their first five games at home for the fifth time in franchise history. After having three games postponed with New Jersey this month, the Pens are in a stretch of 44 games over 84 days.
