The Pittsburgh Penguins defeated the Columbus Blue Jackets 5-2 last night. Jared McCann scored twice as the Penguins moved back into a playoff spot with 19 games remaining in the regular season. Jake Guentzel scored his 29th goal of the season. Evgeni Malkin netted his 20th, and Sidney Crosby scored an empty-net goal with five seconds remaining in the game for his 27th goal of the year.
Matt Murray stopped 21 of 23 shots from Columbus.
The injuries continue to mount for the Pens, as winger Bryan Rust left the game with an injury in the first period, as did another defenseman – Chad Ruhwedel, who was injured in the second period.
The Penguins will visit Buffalo Friday night and move on to Montreal Saturday.
