The Pittsburgh Penguins defeated the New York Islanders 2-1 last night at PPG Paints Arena. Jared McCann and Anthony Angello scored for the Pens. Angello scored on a first-period power play for his first ever NHL power play goal.
The Pens saw the return of winger Jason Zucker from a lower body injury, but lost goaltender Tristan Jarry to an apparent upper-body injury during the game. Jarry did not allow a goal in the opening period, but he also did not return to the ice for the remainder of the game. He was replaced by Casey DeSmith, who stopped 19 of 20 shots and was named the game’s #1-star.
The Pens open a six-game road trip in Boston Thursday. Last night’s win moved the Pens into a second-place tie with the Islanders in the East Division. The Pens are now two points behind the first-place Washington Capitals.
