The Pittsburgh Penguins defeated the Minnesota Wild 4-3 in overtime last night. Evgeni Malkin scored the game-winner in the overtime period. Rickard Rakell scored twice for the Pens. Jake Guentzel scored his 32nd goal of the year. Casey DeSmith earned the victory in net for the Penguins, stopping 28 of 31 shots.
Winger Jason Zucker returned from an injury for the Penguins in the game, but didn’t last long. He went down with a lower body injury after taking a hit in the second period and left the game.
The Pens visit Colorado for a 3pm face-off Saturday. Hear the game on WISR beginning at 2:30pm.
Last night’s win moved the Penguins to within one point of the second-place New York Rangers in the Metro Division with 13 games remaining. The Rangers host the New York Islanders tonight.
Carolina defeated Montreal 4-0 last night and remained six points up on the Pens. The Hurricanes host Minnesota Saturday.
