The Pittsburgh Penguins snapped a four-game losing streak with a 3-2 overtime victory over the Nashville Predators. Sidney Crosby scored the game’s opening goal and the game-winner in overtime. It was Crosby’s 1,400th point in the NHL. Jason Zucker scored the game-tying goal in the third period to tie the game. Casey DeSmith started in net for the Penguins, and stopped 33 of 35 shots.
Crosby is the seventh-fastest player in NHL history to record 1,400 career points. Last night was his 1,100th career game. Wayne Gretzky did it in 580 games. Mario Lemieux in 691 games. They are two fastest. Former Penguin Jaromir Jagr was the fifth-fastest in 1,086 games.
The win kept the Pens four points in front of the Washington Capitals in the Metropolitan Division. The Caps defeated the Pens 6-3 Saturday. The Pens remain six points behind the New York Rangers with eight games remaining in the regular season. The Pens visit the New York Islanders Tuesday.
