The Pittsburgh Penguins defeated the New York Rangers 7-2 last night at Madison Square Garden in New York City. After a scoreless first period, the Pens jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the second period. The Pens had seven different goal-scorers and chased Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist from the game in the third period. Penguins goaltender Matt Murray stopped 28 shots.
The victory was the Pens seventh in a row. In their seven game winning streak, the Pens have outscored their opponents 28-9.
The Pens have moved into second place in the Metropolitan Division and are one point behind first-place Washington. (Although the Capitals have two games in hand).
The Pens return home to begin a three-game homestand Friday night when they host Winnipeg.
Penguins captain Sidney Crosby has been named to an NHL All-Star team roster. The game is being played in San Jose January 26th.
