A local service station fell victim to a phone scam last week.
State police say the Pilot Travel Center in Muddy Creek Township was contacted by multiple people claiming to be from OSHA and Fed-Ex. The scammers told the individuals that the travel center’s OSHA inspection was expiring and they needed to pay a large sum of money in order to be compliant.
An employee in the store then removed $5,000 in store funds and deposited the money into separate cryptocurrency kiosks to be sent out as payment.
Fortunately, they were able to recover $2,000 in funding.
