Pittsburgh Pirates prospect Esmerlyn Valdez is off to a torrid start in the Arizona Fall League (AFL). Valdez has hit eight home runs in the last nine games of the AFL season so far. He is batting .545 over the stretch. Valdez began last season at High-A Greensboro, and was promoted to Double-A Altoona after hitting 20 home runs in 72 games.
After a slow start with the Curve, he hit six home runs before the season ended.
