If and when the Major League Baseball season gets underway – the Pittsburgh Pirates will be without starting pitcher Chris Archer – who had surgery Tuesday for a rare issue called neurogenic thorasic outlet syndrome. The ailment involved discomfort in his neck – and the surgery will keep him sidelined for 2020.
Archer is 6-12 in 33 starts with the Pirates since being acquired from Tampa Bay in exchange for three players – Austin Meadows, Tyler Glasnow and a top pitching prospect.
Major League Baseball rejected the recent player’s proposal for a 114-game regular season Wednesday – and now commissioner Rob Manfred will reportedly present a reduced 50-game season to both sides.
A 50-game schedule would result in players receiving about 30 percent of their full salaries under the prorated deal.
