The Pittsburgh Pirates lost their home opener 6-5 in 11-innings to the Milwaukee Brewers last night at PNC Park. The Pirates bullpen could not close out the game after the Bucs had built a 5-1 lead. Michael Feliz allowed four earned runs to Milwaukee in the ninth inning as the Brewers forced extra innings.
Colin Moran had two of the Pirates four hits – including a home run that one-hopped into the Allegheny river.
Steven Brault and Chad Kuhl pitched the first five and 2/3rd innings of shutout ball. For Kuhl – it was his first appearance since missing 2019 due to injury.
The game was delayed a little over 90 minutes due to rain.
The Pirates and Brewers play again tonight at 7:05pm. WISR pre-game is 6:40pm. Derek Holland will make his Pirates debut on the mound. He will go against former Pirate Josh Lindblom who will start for Milwaukee. His final MLB appearance was with the Bucs in 2017. He has pitched in Korea since then.
More than a dozen Miami Marlins players and coaches have tested positive for COVID-19 – forcing the cancelation of their home opener with Baltimore last night – and their game tonight.
The Marlins opened their season in Philadelphia – where the positive tests popped up. The Phillies-New York Yankees game last night was also canceled.
