The New York Mets defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 3-2 Sunday afternoon. Aroldis Chapman failed to protect a 2-1 lead in the ninth inning. He walked three batters in the inning, and still came within a strike of saving the game, before the Mets singled home two runs. The Pirates wasted six shutout innings by starting pitcher Luis Ortiz. He allowed four hits, did not walk a batter, and struck out five.
The two teams close out their four-game series this afternoon at 12:35pm. Hear the game on WISR. Mitch Keller will start for the Bucs.
The Mets won 5-2 Saturday after the Pirates won 14-2 Friday night. The Bucs had a record-tying seven home runs, including two grand-slams in that game.
The Pirates head to Milwaukee after today’s game. They have six road games prior to the All-Star break.
The Pirates have lost another starting pitcher to injury. Bailey Falter was placed on the 15-day Injured List Sunday with an arm injury. The move came two days after the Pirates placed starter Jared Jones on the Injured List.
