The Pittsburgh Pirates completed a three-game series sweep of the New York Mets following a 12-1 victory Sunday afternoon at PNC Park. Oneil Cruz hit two home runs. Tommy Pham and Bryan Reynolds also added home runs. The Bucs had 16 hits in the game.
Starting pitcher Mike Burrows allowed one run on four hits and struck out five. He did not qualify for the victory when he didn’t complete the fifth inning. Burrows had made a relief appearance last week in Milwaukee, and was limited on the number of pitches he would be able to throw Sunday. For the month of June, Burrows had a 2.73 ERA and 30 strikeouts over 26-1/3rd innings.
The Pirates scored 30 runs in the series with the Mets and collected 40 hits over the three games. The Mets came to Pittsburgh in first place in the National League East. They now trail Philadelphia by 1-1/2 games.
The Pirates open a three-game series with the St. Louis Cardinals tonight at 6:40pm. Pre-game on WISR begins at 6:15pm. Andrew Heaney is slated to start for the Bucs.
