The Kansas City Royals completed a three-game series sweep of the Pittsburgh Pirates following a 4-3 victory last night. One night after a 4-3 walk-off win, the Royals scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning when Salvador Perez hit a home run off reliever Isaac Mattson. It was one of two home runs Perez had in the game.
Tommy Pham led the Bucs with a three-hit night, including a double. Ke’Bryan Hayes drove in two runs.
(…In his past 13 games dating back to June 22nd, Pham is batting .444 with three home runs and 15 runs batted in. He has raised his season batting average from .194 to .250….)
The Pirates, who have lost six in a row after a six-game winning streak, are off today. They begin a three-game series prior to the All-Star Break in Minnesota Friday night, with back-to-back afternoon games over the weekend.
After the break, the Pirates will have a nine-game home-stand with the White Sox, Detroit and Arizona coming to town.
