The Pittsburgh Pirates lost to the Boston Red Sox 2-1 last night in exhibition baseball. The game was scoreless until the bottom of the eighth inning when the Red Sox scored twice. The Pirates scored their run in the top of the ninth.
Mitch Keller started for the Bucs and allowed just a hit over three innings. He did not walk a batter and struck out five. Caleb Ferguson, David Bednar and Dennis Santana followed Keller with scoreless innings.
The Pirates had eight hits in the game, but left eight men on base. Joey Bart and Tommy Pham had two hits each.
The Pirates host the Baltimore Orioles today at 1:05pm in Bradenton. Paul Skenes will make his final start of spring training today. He will be the opening day starter in Miami Thursday. Today’s game is the final preseason game in Bradenton of the spring.
The Pirates visit Toronto in Dunedin, Florida Sunday at 1pm, then visit Minnesota in Fort Myers Monday at 1pm to close their Grapefruit League pre-season.
