The Pittsburgh Pirates dropped the first game of a three game series at PNC Park against the Arizona Diamondbacks by a score of 9-8.
The Pirates had an abysmal start, allowing the first 4 batters of the game to score, 3 of which on back-to-back-to-back solo home runs. Despite this the Pirates were able to tie the game and take the lead in the 6th inning, but were unable to hold on.
Starting Pitcher Luis Ortiz pitched 5.1 innings, allowing 6 hits and 6 runs while striking out 2.
Shortstop Oneil Cruz went 5 for 5 with a double and 2 RBIs.
The Pirates and Diamondbacks play again tonight at 6:40 PM. Pre-game is on WISR at 6:15. The series wraps up Sunday at 1:35 PM.
