The Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 5-3 last night at PNC Park. The Pirates managed just two hits off Los Angeles starting pitcher Walker Buehler over seven innings. Bryan Reynolds and Michael Perez hit home runs for the Bucs in the ninth inning. JT Brubaker started for the Pirates and allowed three earned runs over 4-2/3rds innings. He did not walk a batter and struck out six. He took the loss, with his record falling to 4-5.
Ke’Bryan Hayes had what appeared to be a first inning home run, but failed to touch first base as he rounded the bases. The Dodgers appealed and the run was taken away.
Adam Frazier had a double in the game, and extended his hitting streak to 11-games.
The Bucs and Dodgers play game two of their three-game series tonight at 7:05pm. Pre-game on WISR 680am is 6:40pm. Tyler Anderson will start for the Pirates.
The two teams complete the series with an afternoon game tomorrow. Mitch Keller was given clearance to start tomorrow’s game after he left his previous game after two innings not feeling well.
Philip Evans returned from injury for last night’s game. To make roster space, the Pirates had to designate Wilmer Difo for assignment. He was the major league leader in pinch hits with eight this season, but had just a .217 average over the past month.
