Pittsburgh Pirates catcher Elias Diaz has been shut down from baseball activities due to an undisclosed illness. The 28-year old Diaz played 82 games last season for the Bucs, hitting 10 home runs, while batting .286. He drove in 34 runs.
The Pirates lost to Toronto 2-1 Wednesday in Grapefruit League play. Outfielder Jason Martin hit his second home run of the spring. Martin was part of the Andrew McCutchen trade. Starting pitcher Clay Holmes gave up two hits in a scoreless 1-1/3rd innings. He walked two and struckout two.
