The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the San Diego Padres 8-4 last night to open their three-game series. The Bucs hit four home runs in the game. First baseman Carlos Santana hit two of the round-trippers and drove in four runs. Santana and Jack Suwinski led the Pirates with three hits each. Suwinski hit his team leading 21st home run. The Pirates had 13 hits in the game.
Quinn Priester earned his first major league victory, allowing all four earned runs to the Angels in 5-1/3rd innings. He allowed two home runs. Three relievers pitched 3-2/3rd scoreless innings to preserve the win.
Second baseman Tucapita Marcano went down with a knee injury during the fifth inning of the game. He was trying to avoid a tag while running from first to third.
The Pirates and Padres play again tonight at 9:40pm. Pre-game on WISR begins at 9:15pm.
