After an off-day, the Pittsburgh Pirates will open a nine-game home stand tonight when they host the Toronto Blue Jays. Game time is 6:35pm.
The Pirates have called up 24-year old Johan Oviedo to start tonight’s opening game against the Blue Jays. The right-handed Oviedo was the primary piece of the Jose Quintana trade in July with the St. Louis Cardinals. He had a 0.79 ERA in four starts for Indianapolis since that trade.
Rosters are permitted to expand to 28 in September, so the Bucs also recalled outfielder Cal Mitchell, who is hitting .339 in 63 games with the Indians.
The Bucs and Blue Jays play again Saturday night at 6:35pm. Hear that game on WISR beginning at 6:10pm. The Pirates will be holding their inaugural Hall of Fame ceremony prior to the game.
Sunday’s game has a 12:05pm first pitch. WISR will join that game after the Noon News.
