Jacob DeGrom of the New York Mets was the first pitcher to have his hat examined by umpires in a game as new rules regarding substances went into effect Monday across baseball. DeGrom tossed five innings of one-hit ball yesterday against Atlanta. He lowered his ERA to 0.50 – the lowest after 12 games in baseball history.
