The Pittsburgh Pirates open a three-game series in Colorado tonight. First pitch is 8:10pm. Pre-game on WISR begins at 7:45pm.
General Manager Ben Cherington made several moves prior to the MLB trade deadline Thursday, including trading Mars native and closer David Bednar to the New York Yankees. Starting pitcher Bailey Falter was sent to the Kansas City Royals. Newly acquired reliever Taylor Rogers was flipped to the Chicago Cubs. Each of the moves brought only future prospects for the Pirates. The Bednar trade brought three prospects.
The moves Thursday were in addition to the Pirates dealing away third baseman Ke’Bryan Hayes and reliever Caleb Ferguson Wednesday.
Cherington did not find deals for veterans with expiring contracts like Tommy Pham, Isaiah Kiner-Falefa, Dennis Santana and Andrew Heaney.
