The Pittsburgh Pirates lost to Toronto 3-1 in Grapefruit League play. Trevor Williams threw three scoreless innings in his latest start. Shortstop Kevin Newman had two hits. The Pirates visit Detroit in Lakeland today before an off-day Wednesday.
The Bucs made their first cuts of spring training Monday. The Bucs sent one of their top prospects – shortstop Oneil Cruz – to Double-A Altoona to begin the season. They also sent reliever Blake Cederlind and first baseman Will Craig to Triple-A Indianapolis. In total eight players were sent away from the major league camp.
Major League Baseball, the NHL, the NBA and Major League Soccer will close access to locker rooms and clubhouses to all non-essential personnel in response to the Coronavirus. The changes were part of a joint announcement and will be temporary.
