The Pittsburgh Pirates open a nine-game home-stand tonight when they host the Houston Astros. First pitch is 6:40pm at PNC Park. Pre-game on WISR begins at 6:15pm.
The Astros enter the night a half-game behind Seattle in the American League West. They have a record o 32-27. (The Pirates are 22-38, but 5-5 in their last 10 games.)
The Bucs will have three night games with the Astros, then the Philadelphia Phillies arrive for the weekend.
The Pirates designated for assignment reliever Tanner Rainey Monday, after he failed to hold the Pirates lead late in Sunday’s game with San Diego. The Pirates led 4-2 when he took the mound, but lost 6-4.
