The Pittsburgh Pirates and Minnesota Twins completed their spring training games with a 1-1 tie over seven innings Tuesday in Fort Myers. The Bucs had three hits, with first baseman Colin Moran collecting two of them. Ke’Bryan Hayes provided the Pirates run with a solo home run, his second of the spring. He hit .431 for the preseason, going 22 for 51 with nine RBI’s. J.T. Brubaker started for the Pirates. He allowed one run over five innings on just one hit. He walked two and struck out four.
Kevin Newman finished the spring batting .606, the best mark in Major League Baseball since at least 2006, and the best mark in Pirates history since at least 1974. He did go hitless in his final five at-bats over two games. Adam Frazier went hitless in his two at-bats Tuesday, and finished the exhibition season with a .488 average.
Free agent infielder Todd Frazier has decided to return to the Pirates, and signed a minor league deal.
The Pirates are scheduled to open their season Thursday in Chicago. First pitch is 2:20pm. Chad Kuhl will start for the Pirates. Kyle Hendricks will start for the Cubs. Hear the game on WISR beginning at 1:55pm Thursday.
