The Pirates organization has also moved top prospect Konnor Griffin to Double-A Altoona. It is the second promotion of the year for baseball’s top overall prospect. The 19-year old Griffin began his season at low-A Bradenton, where he batted .338 with nine home runs and 26 stolen bases over 50 games. That performance earned the shortstop a spot among the MLB Futures Game as part of the All-Star week. After being promoted to high-A Greensboro, Griffin batted .319 and hit seven home runs and stole 30 bases over 48 games.
Griffin joins an Altoona Curve team that entered the weekend in first place in the Eastern League’s Southwest Division second-half standings. He will play in the same infield as Termarr Johnson, the Pirates’ first-round pick in 2022, who was a top 100 prospect entering the season.
