The Major League Baseball Winter Meetings ended yesterday. The Pirates were quiet except for minor league moves. They did acquire two players in the Rule 5 Draft Thursday morning. The Bucs selected right-handed pitcher Jordan Milbrath from the Cleveland Indians, who pitched at the high-A and double-A levels as a reliever last season.
The Pirates also acquired injured reliever Nick Burdi, a right-handed pitcher. The 24-year old Burdi had been selected third overall in the draft by Philadelphia, but the Pirates traded $500,000 in International pool bonus money for him. Burdi is a hard throwing reliever who had been in the Minnesota Twins organization. He had Tommy John surgery last season, and will begin this season on the disabled list.
