The Pittsburgh Pirates lost 1-0 in 11-innings Friday night to the Arizona Diamondbacks in the opening game of a three-game series at PNC Park.
The Pirates managed just one hit over the 11 frames. Tommy Pham had a triple in the second inning – but was stranded at third.
Rookie Braxton Ashcraft took the loss, allowing an unearned run in the 11th. He gave up a sacrifice fly which scored the winning run.
Pirates starting pitcher Mike Burrows did not allow a run over six innings. He allowed just three hits, walked one and struck out five.
The Bucs and Diamondbacks play again tonight at 6:40pm. WISR pre-game is 6:15pm. Andrew Heaney will start for the Bucs. It could be his final start in a Pirates uniform. The MLB trade deadline is next Thursday.
