After another solid starting pitching performance, the Pittsburgh Pirates bullpen completed a 2-0 shutout of the Cincinnati Reds last night at PNC Park. Jordan Lyles made his Pirates debut by throwing five scoreless innings. He allowed three hits while walking three and striking out two.
Nick Kingham pitched two scoreless innings of relief and earned the victory. Richard Rodriguez added a scoreless eighth inning, and Felipe Vazquez earned his first save by striking out the side in the ninth inning.
The Bucs had 10 hits in the game. Melky Cabrera had three hits. Josh Bell and Starling Marte had two hits a piece.
The Pirates and Reds play again tonight at 7:05pm. Joe Musgrove will start for the Bucs opposite Sonny Gray for the Reds.
The two teams have 1:35pm starts Saturday and Sunday. WISR pre-game Saturday is 1:10pm. Pre-game Sunday is 12:35 with the Neil Huntington show kicking off the broadcast.
The Pirates visit the Chicago Cubs for the Cubs home opener Monday at 2:20pm.
Corey Dickerson has been placed on the 10-day injured list with a sore shoulder. He joins outfielders Gregory Polanco and Lonnie Chisenhall, leaving Starling Marte as the only active starter.
