Pirates starting pitcher Paul Skenes was named the National League Pitcher of the month for July. Over five starts during the month, Skenes went 2-1 with an 0.67 ERA. He struck out 36 while walking three. Before giving up a hit in his last start Saturday, he had retired the previous 19 batters without a hit.
Pirates prospect Konnor Griffin has become the first Pirate to steal 50 bases in his first professional season since 1974. The #1-prospect in baseball is currently on a 12-game on-base streak. Griffin is currently with the Pirates High-A team in Greensboro.
The 1974 mark totaled 73 stolen bases for prospect Omar Moreno for Double-A Thetford (Quebec) and Triple-A Charleston. Moreno would make his MLB debut the following season.
