The Pittsburgh Pirates followed a four-game winning streak with a four-game losing streak before snapping that streak with a win Sunday. The Bucs defeated the Colorado Rockies 8-3 to avoid a series sweep in Denver. They pounded 16 hits in the game and never trailed. Kevin Newman and Michael Chavis led the Pirates with three-hit games. The Bucs still struck out 11 times and left 11 men on base, but defensively turned three double plays
The Pirates enter the All-Star break 14 games under .500 and finished their 12-game road trip 6-6. They will resume play at PNC Park Friday with a weekend series with Miami.
The All-Star Game will be played in Los Angeles tomorrow night.
MLB sluggers will be taking part in the Home Run Derby tonight at Dodger Stadium. Pete Alonso of the New York Mets will be attempting to be the first player to win the Derby three years in a row. He will face Ronald Acuna, Jr. in the first round. Other match-ups: Kyle Schwarber and Albert Pujols, Juan Soto and Jose Ramirez and Julio Rodriguez faces Corey Seager.
