The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the San Francisco Giants 2-1 in 10-innings Wednesday afternoon, and completed a three-game series sweep. The victory was the Pirates fifth win in a row. Catcher Henry Davis drove in the winning run with a fielder’s-choice grounder in the top of the 10th inning.
Spencer Horwitz led the Bucs with two hits. Rookie starting pitcher Mike Burrows allowed one run over six innings. He allowed three hits and struck out seven. Burrows lowered his ERA to 3.88 for the season.
Erie native Isaac Mattson earned the victory with two scoreless innings to close the game. He allowed two hits and struck out three.
The Pirates are off today. They visit the Colorado Rockies for three games beginning Friday night.
The Giants went winless for their six-game home-stand, the first time since 1896 that their franchise has gone winless on a home-stand of six or more games.
