The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Miami Marlins 3-1 Wednesday afternoon at PNC Park. The victory completed a three-game series sweep of the Marlins. The Pirates have now won four games in a row, and went 7-0 this season against Miami.
Bailey Falter took a no-hitter into the eighth inning for the Bucs. He left the game with one out in that inning, allowing two hits and striking out five to earn his eighth victory of the year. Bryan Reynolds had another two hit game. Jared Triolo hit his eighth home run of the year.
The Pirates are off today, then host the Kansas City Royals for a three-game series this weekend.
After producing an 8-19 record in the month of August, the Bucs are 6-4 in September.
Pirates general manager Ben Cherington made a statement Wednesday that he fully expects manager Derek Shelton will return for the 2025 season. Shelton has yet to lead the Pirates to a winning record since being hired in 2020. He has an overall record of 286-404.
