The Pittsburgh Pirates swept a doubleheader from the Cincinnati Reds Tuesday. Two young pitchers had strong outings, including 23-year old Luiz Ortiz, who pitched into the sixth inning of a 1-0 win in the nightcap. He allowed just one hit and the Pirates produced the game-winning run in the seventh inning. Johan Oviedo tossed one-hit ball over five innings in a 6-1 win in the opener. Ke’Bryan Hayes and Bryan Reynolds hit home runs in that game.
The two teams complete their series today at 12:35p. WISR will join the game following the noon news.
Reliever David Bednar began a rehab assignment with Triple-A Indianapolis Tuesday. He has been out since July 31st with a back issue.
New York Yankees slugger Aaron Judge hit two home runs in the team’s 7-6 win over Boston last night. They are his league-leading 56th & 57th home runs of the year. He is now four home runs away from tying Roger Maris for the American League record. 20 games remain in the Yankees season.
