The Pittsburgh Pirates completed a three-game series sweep of the Kansas City Royals Wednesday following a 4-1 victory. Pirates starting pitcher Andre Jackson earned his first major league victory by tossing 5-2/3rds innings of one-run baseball. He allowed two hits and struck out a career-high seven. Bryan Reynolds and Jack Suwinski hit home runs. It was the first round-tripper for Suwinski in 29 games.
Jackson struck out the first five Royals to start the game, the first time a Pirates pitcher has done that since Bruce Kison in June of 1979 against the Montreal Expos.
The Pirates are off today. They begin a three-game series in St. Louis Friday night.
The Bucs return home for a Labor Day Monday evening game against Milwaukee.
