The Pittsburgh Pirates lost to the Cleveland Indians 2-0 last night at PNC Park as five Cleveland pitchers combined for the shutout. The win completed a three-game series sweep for the Indians. Trevor Williams allowed one run in his five innings and took the loss. The Pirates have lost 17 of their 21 games this season.
Shortstop Kevin Newman had two hits in three at-bats to increase his average to .292 – but six other starters began the game batting .210 or under.
The Pirates host the Milwaukee Brewers tonight to begin a three-game series. Chad Kuhl will start for the Bucs. Game time is 7:05pm. Pre-game on WISR is 6:40pm.
The New York Mets have had two games postponed after getting two positive coronavirus tests in their organization yesterday. The last game of the Mets’ four-game series against Miami that was supposed to played last night was postponed, and tonight’s scheduled game between the Mets and the New York Yankees was also postponed to allow for more testing and contact tracing to be done. Major League Baseball has postponed 34 games this season so far because of positive tests.
The San Diego Padres last night became the first team in MLB history to hit a grand slam in four straight games. The record-setting grand slam was hit by Eric Hosmer in the fifth inning of the Padres’ 8-7 win against the Texas Rangers. All four games involving grand slams have been against the Rangers.
