The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Cincinnati Reds 6-1 Wednesday afternoon. Luis Ortiz made his first start of the season and went six innings. He allowed just one run on four hits and did not walk a batter. Ortiz struck out a career-high seven batters.
Rowdy Tellez and Andrew McCutchen hit home runs for the Pirates. Bryan Reynolds extended his hitting streak to 23 games.
The Bucs are back to two games under .500 with a record of 39-41. They are off today, then will visit the Atlanta Braves for a weekend series beginning tomorrow night.
After another day off Monday, the Pirates open the month of July with a seven-game home stand.
Catcher Henry Davis, who is recovering from a concussion, began a rehab assignment at Double-A Altoona yesterday.
