The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Chicago Cubs 7-1 Sunday afternoon at PNC Park, and took two of three games in the series. Bryan Reynolds had four hits for the Bucs. The team pounded 14 hits in the game. Even pitcher J.T. Brubaker had a three-run double. Brubaker pitched into the sixth inning, allowing one run on four hits. He walked one a struck out four for his first win of the year. The Bucs hammered former teammate Trevor Williams for 10 hits and five runs.
The Pirates broke a six-game losing streak Saturday with an 8-2 victory over the Cubs. Mitch Keller threw five strong innings, allowing just a first inning run on five hits. He walked one and struck out seven.
The Bucs open a four-game series with the San Diego Padres tonight. First pitch is 6:35pm. Pre-game on WISR 680am begins at 6:10pm. Trevor Cahill will make his second start of the season for the Pirates. Former Cubs pitcher Yu Darvish will start for the Padres.
Former Pirate Joe Musgrove will start for San Diego against Bucs in Wednesday’s game. Musgrove tossed the first no-hitter in San Diego club history Friday night. He was a hit-by-pitch away from a perfect game. He did not walk a batter and struck out 10. Going back to last season, Musgrove has not allowed a run in 31 innings.
