The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the San Diego Padres 5-1 last night at PNC Park. Gregory Polanco broke former Pirate Joe Musgrove’s scoreless streak at 32 innings with a second inning home run. Polanco scored twice and drove in two runs. Adam Frazier added three hits. Tyler Anderson earned his first win as a Pirate, allowing one run while pitching into the sixth inning. The Pirates improved to 5-7 overall.
The Bucs and Padres complete their four-game series today. First pitch is 12:35pm. Mitch Keller will start for the Bucs, who head to Milwaukee after the game.
The second no-hitter of the season has been thrown by Chicago White Sox starter Carlos Rodon, held the Cleveland Indians hitless last night. He had a perfect game until he hit a batter with one out in the ninth inning. The 28-year old Rodon threw 75 of his 114 pitches for strikes.
Joe Musgrove of the Padres had the first no-hitter last weekend, and also missed a perfect game due to a hit batsman.
Major League Baseball will celebrate Jackie Robinson Day today. All players, manager, coaches and umpires will be wearing Robinson’s Number 42. The date marks the anniversary of when the Hall of Famer made his debut with the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1947.
